James Toney Predicts Brutal Finish for Canelo-Crawford Showdown: "It Won't Go The Distance"

Former Super Middleweight Champion James Toney thinks Crawford will make quick work of Canelo. Toney predicts a knockout victory for 'Bud' in their upcoming clash.

Crawford aims to make history by becoming the first male fighter in the modern era to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes. He'll have to jump up two weight classes to challenge Canelo, the current undisputed super-middleweight champion.

Toney, who held the IBF title at 168lbs from 1993 to 1994, shared his thoughts on the fight. In an interview with AB Boxing News, Toney said:

"Easy win [for Crawford]. Easy win. Trust me … Canelo is a good fighter, but he's not on James Toney's level."

Toney's prediction might raise some eyebrows. He's been a vocal critic of Alvarez in the past, so his opinion could be seen as biased by some in the sport, especially those backing Canelo.

The former champ knows a thing or two about tough fights at super middleweight. His first career defeat came against Roy Jones Jr. in this weight class.

Canelo and Crawford have shown mutual respect in the lead-up to their fight. Both fighters recognize the challenge ahead and the historical significance of the bout.

Toney doubled down on his prediction in a separate interview with ES News. He remains confident that Crawford will emerge victorious on September 13.
