Butterbean's journey back to boxing wasn't easy. Four years ago, he faced severe health issues that left him confined to a wheelchair. His weight peaked at 515 pounds, and doctors thought he might never walk again. The fighter found himself bedridden for nearly a year, battling crippling depression.
"I couldn't walk," Butterbean said. "When you can't walk, you can't fight. When you quit believing in yourself, you can't do anything. I didn't even leave the bed."
The turning point came when Diamond Dallas Page introduced Butterbean to his DDP Yoga program. The results were remarkable. Butterbean shed over 200 pounds and now weighs 285 lbs. He claims he's in the best shape of his life.
"I feel better now in my 50s than I did in my 20s," Butterbean stated.
With his health improved, Butterbean has set his sights on a comeback fight. His primary target? Mike Tyson. Butterbean believes he can land shots on Tyson, saying, "Tyson doesn't have a chin. He's just so fast no one hits him." However, Tyson has insisted he's done with professional fighting, especially after his recent bout with Jake Paul left him injured and contemplating retirement.
That's led Butterbean to shift his focus to Jake Paul. The YouTuber-turned-boxer has a 12-1 record, with notable victories over Anderson Silva and Julio César Chávez Jr. Butterbean's motivation stems from Paul mocking his weight during his lowest point.
"I was over 500 pounds and in a wheelchair. He talked bad about me then. So I got in shape-and now he's backing off," Butterbean explained.
As part of his comeback, Butterbean has partnered with Lucky Energy to launch "Butterbean's Knockout Punch," a tropical fruit punch energy drink. He's using the product to challenge Paul, saying, "There's only one fighter out there who likes beating up retired, bald guys-Jake Paul. I'm coming for you."
Butterbean's return to boxing continues to generate interest. With his improved health and determination, fans will watch closely to see if the former heavyweight sensation can make good on his comeback plans.
