ICE took Chavez Jr. into custody following an arrest warrant issued by Mexico's Attorney General's Office (FGR). The boxer's legal status in the United States has been complicated for some time. In December 2024, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service declared him an illegal citizen and a serious threat to public safety. However, at that time, the case wasn't considered a priority for further investigation.

Chavez Jr.'s attempts to become a legal citizen led to fraudulent statements, which further complicated his immigration status. His legal team has been working hard to prevent his deportation. They've filed six judicial appeals aiming to secure his release if he's sent back to Mexico.

However, prosecutor Alejandro Gertz Manero has denied all these requests. The reason? There's already an arrest warrant waiting for Chavez Jr. in Mexico.

The boxer now faces a tough situation. If he's deported to Mexico, he'll likely be arrested as soon as he touches Mexican soil due to the existing warrant. On the other hand, if he stays in the U.S., he'll have to face the charges related to his alleged involvement with the Sinaloa Cartel.

This case has drawn attention to the complexities of cross-border legal issues and immigration policies. It also highlights the potential consequences of making fraudulent claims during the citizenship application process.

As the legal proceedings continue, the boxing world watches closely. The outcome of this case will have significant implications for Chavez Jr.'s future, both in and out of the ring.
