Gervonta Davis' Rival Makes Bold Claim About Champ's Future: "He's Ducking Me"

Davis, 30, from Baltimore, Maryland, has been a force in the ring since his pro debut in 2013. He's racked up over 30 fights without a loss and grabbed world titles in three weight classes. Right now, he's the top dog in the WBA lightweight division.

His last fight on March 1 at the Barclays Center in New York City ended in a majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. That bout stirred up some debate, and now they're set for a rematch on August 16.

But it's not the rematch that's got people talking. It's what Floyd Schofield's dad and coach has to say about Davis. In a recent interview, Schofield Sr. didn't hold back:

"Floyd will stop Tank, that's why they won't choose us. That's why they're retiring. Floyd will stop Tank, we already know it, we watched Tank get stopped plenty of times in camp. He's not new, he's not invincible."

These are big words, especially considering Floyd Schofield is only 22 and still making his name in the lightweight division. The New Jersey native just scored a first-round stoppage against former IBF world super-featherweight champ Tevin Farmer last Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Schofield was supposed to fight for the WBC lightweight title against Shakur Stevenson but had to pull out because he got sick. Now, his dad thinks Davis is the one who's ducking.

We'll have to wait and see how this plays out. For now, Davis has his hands full with the upcoming Roach rematch. But in the world of boxing, you never know what might happen next.
