Amir Khan might step back into the ring for one more fight. The British former boxer has said he'd find it hard to turn down a bout with Manny Pacquiao.
Khan hung up his gloves in 2022 after losing to Kell Brook. He's since focused on the promotional side of boxing. But Pacquiao's recent comeback has got Khan thinking about lacing up the gloves again.
Pacquiao, at 46 years old, is set to face Mario Barrios for the WBC Welterweight World Championship. If he wins, he'll break his own record as the oldest 147-pound champion.
In an interview with IFL TV, Khan shared his thoughts on a potential comeback:
"If Manny wins, does he come out and fight me? I don't think he does … I would like it. To be honest with you, it would definitely give me that drive. Manny Pacquiao wants to fight you and you want to work and train hard."
Khan believes he'd approach training differently this time around:
"I know I wouldn't make the mistakes I've made in my career. For example, being out years and going into a hard camp and then I'm injured and everything else. I think for the Kell Brook fight I had trained so hard maybe I overdid it."
The former two-time world champion seems torn about returning to the ring:
"I don't know if I still want to do it. I've got a lot of things in my life outside of boxing … I don't know if I really want to get back in the ring again, but I do miss it. Don't get me wrong, I miss the sport so bad that I would want to come back, but nothing's pulling me. If there was a deal on the table that was hard to say no to…"
For now, it's all talk. Pacquiao needs to get past Barrios first, which many think will be a tough task. If he does, he's got his sights set on bigger names like Gervonta Davis and Conor Benn.
Pacquiao's return to boxing at his age has sparked controversy in the sport. It's also got retired fighters like Khan thinking about "what if" scenarios. We'll have to wait and see if this dream match-up becomes a reality.
