Roy Jones Jr. wants to fight Mike Tyson again. The former heavyweight champion recently called out Tyson for a rematch, saying it would be an "epic" event.
Jones, who's 56 years old, shared his thoughts in an interview with Prime Casino. He believes both he and Tyson still have an "appetite" for fighting, and a rematch would be entertaining for fans.
"Me and Mike Tyson would have an unforgettable night at Times Square, you understand me? He'd been trying to kill me. I'd been trying to p*ss him off so he wants to kill me, so I can have him coming for me; I'll be moving, being smart, entertaining every chance I get, it would be epic. Trust me."
Jones won world titles from middleweight to heavyweight during his career. He grabbed the WBA heavyweight title from John Ruiz in 2003. His last professional fight was in 2023, where Anthony 'Showtime' Pettis outpointed him.
Tyson, known as 'Iron' Mike, became the youngest world heavyweight champion in 1985. He ruled the heavyweight division in the mid-to-late 1980s. After retiring in 2005, Tyson moved to exhibition boxing.
The two legends fought to a draw in an exhibition bout in 2020. Jones thinks a rematch would be better than some current top fighters' bouts.
"We would 'outperform' Tank, Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez."
Jones explained why he thinks Tyson would be up for another fight:
"Mike Tyson has an appetite to fight again.. he keeps an appetite to fight. That's what he does for a living. You see what people don't realize. The appetite never dies. It's just that the menu becomes so small, but the appetite stays there. So if you get the opportunity, of course you're going to fight. That's what we do. We grew up fighting. All we know is fighting. We love fighting."
Tyson's last fight was against YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul in November 2023. Jones has also mentioned he'd be open to a bout with Paul.
As of now, there's no official word on whether this rematch will happen. But Jones seems ready to step back into the ring with his old rival.
