Jake Paul Dismisses Gervonta Davis' Skills: "He's Not What People Think"

Paul, known as "The Problem Child," has turned heads in the boxing world. The YouTuber-turned-boxer recently had success against Mike Tyson and has a fight lined up with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28, 2025, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Davis, nicknamed "Tank," is coming off a controversial majority decision draw against Lamont Roach Jr. The fight raised eyebrows when Davis kneeled in the ninth round. A rematch is set for August 16 in Las Vegas.

The proposed Paul-Davis bout ran into trouble. It could only be authorized as an exhibition, and Davis' performance against Roach Jr. complicated matters further.

Paul shared his thoughts on Davis in an interview with Ariel Helwani:

"I never thought Tank was that good. To be honest, it would just take the right boxer to tear him apart. Someone very active and not afraid of his power."

Paul said he spotted clear flaws in Davis' boxing and wasn't surprised by Roach Jr.'s performance against him.

Not everyone's happy about the potential Paul-Davis matchup. Shakur Stevenson voiced his opposition to Fight Hub TV:

"Tank disrespects the sport if he chose to fight Jake Paul instead of me."

Stevenson wants to face Davis himself and feels a Paul-Davis fight would be disrespectful to boxing.

Paul's boxing career has come a long way. He faced criticism early on but now attracts interest from established fighters due to the high purses he can offer. He was set to fight Canelo Alvarez, but that fell through when Alvarez signed a four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh.

For now, the Paul-Davis exhibition remains up in the air. Both fighters have other bouts lined up, and the boxing world watches with interest to see what happens next.
