Carl Froch and Joe Calzaghe never got to face each other in the ring. But that hasn't stopped people from talking about what might have happened if they did. Now, Eddie Hearn, who used to promote Froch, has shared his thoughts on this fantasy fight.
Hearn thinks Froch would have come out on top. He bases this on Froch's tough-as-nails attitude and refusal to back down. In a recent chat with BoxNation, Hearn explained his reasoning:
"I would never back against Carl because he was the most stubborn, tightest b**tard. I love Carl Froch. I tell you something now, he would scrap with you for a five-penny piece on the floor."
But Hearn didn't dismiss Calzaghe's skills. He admitted that Calzaghe's style would have been tough for Froch to handle.
Both fighters had impressive careers in the super middleweight division. They're considered two of the best British boxers ever in that weight class.
Froch, known as "The Cobra," fought from 2002 to 2014. He held the WBC, WBA, and IBF titles at super middleweight. He was known for his granite chin and never-say-die attitude. Froch ended his career with two big wins over George Groves.
Calzaghe, on the other hand, retired undefeated after 46 fights. He was the longest-reigning super middleweight world champion, defending his title 20 times over more than a decade. Calzaghe was a volume puncher with slick footwork and good defense. He also moved up to light heavyweight, beating Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr.
Their careers overlapped briefly, but they never met in the ring. It's a fight that Froch often talks about as the one that got away.
Hearn's opinion isn't shared by everyone. Frank Warren, who promoted Calzaghe, strongly believes his fighter would have won.
This debate about who would have won between Froch and Calzaghe will likely continue. It's one of those great "what if" questions in boxing that fans love to discuss.
