Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. are set to face off in a boxing match that's getting people talking. The fight will take place on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
This bout is shaping up to be more competitive than Paul's previous exhibitions. The YouTuber-turned-boxer will go up against a born fighter with years of experience in the ring. There's a 10-year age gap between the two, with Paul having youth on his side.
Paul's brother, Logan, says this time Jake will face a "real boxer." It's a step up from his past opponents, including a victory over Anderson Silva three years ago.
Chavez Jr., now 39, is looking to end his career on a high note. He's got boxing in his blood, but he's also known for letting people down. A loss to Paul could be the most embarrassing defeat of his career.
Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., a boxing legend and Chavez Jr.'s father, believes his son will have no trouble beating Paul. He said:
"My son can beat him without problems. Jake Paul is just a simple YouTuber."
Eddie Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing, thinks this is a smart move for Paul. He shared his thoughts:
"Unless Jake makes a lot of money, he's not going to take substantial risks. He's very calculating (...) Chavez Jr. suffered a loss to Anderson Silva, whom Paul defeated three years ago. However, he is quite popular in Mexico. I think the fight would be pretty good. I don't think Chavez is terrible... if he just gets in shape, at least it could be competitive. But, size, youth... it's a good matchup"
Hearn prefers this matchup to Paul's upcoming "fight" with Mike Tyson in November, which many don't see as a serious contest.
As the fight date gets closer, more people are paying attention. Many think it could be more entertaining than Paul's previous bouts. With Paul's determination and Chavez's experience, it's anyone's guess how this one will play out.
