Toney rose to stardom in the 1990s with big wins over Michael Nunn, Iran Barkley, and Mike McCallum. He kept his unbeaten record for 47 fights before losing to Roy Jones Jr in 1994. Jones Jr beat Toney by unanimous decision and took his IBF world super-middleweight title.

Later in his career, Toney moved up to heavyweight. In 2005, he beat John Ruiz for the WBA crown, but the result was overturned when he failed a drugs test. The next year, he fought WBC champion Hasim Rahman to a split decision draw.

Toney's last fight was in 2017. He stopped Mike Sheppard in the sixth round at the Convocation Center in Michigan. Now, at 56 years old and eight years since that fight, Toney thinks he could still compete.

In a chat with ESNEWS, Toney said:

"I can fight right now, I ain't bullsh*****g you, I can fight in this era right now, it's too easy, like stealing money"

Toney has shown interest in fighting Jake Paul, the YouTube star turned pro boxer. It's not clear if that fight will happen. Paul is set to face Julio Cesar Chavez on Saturday, June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Whether Toney actually comes back or not, his confidence in his abilities, even at 56, shows the competitive spirit that made him a champion in three weight classes.
