Arum's career in boxing promotion spans decades. He founded Top Rank in 1973, transitioning from a lawyer to one of the most influential figures in the boxing world. Over the years, he's guided the careers of boxing icons like Muhammad Ali, Floyd Mayweather, and Manny Pacquiao. Recently, he's played a key role in the success of fighters like Terence 'Bud' Crawford, Naoya Inoue, and Tyson Fury.

Despite working with such big names, Arum holds Cotto in high regard. In an interview with El Nuevo Dia, Arum praised Cotto's dedication and work ethic:

"We had a great journey with Miguel. He was a fantastic fighter. He was dedicated, he worked hard, and he accomplished great things in boxing. He certainly deserves to be in the Boxing Hall of Fame. So I'm very proud of that and of him. I have great memories in the years that we represented him, particularly the events at Madison Square Garden that coincided with the Puerto Rican Parade in June in New York."

Cotto's achievements back up Arum's high opinion. The Puerto Rican fighter won world titles in four weight divisions, cementing his place as one of the greatest boxers from his country. His list of victories includes wins over top-tier opponents like Shane Mosley, Sergio Martinez, and Zab Judah.

Arum noted that Cotto's approach to the sport set him apart from many of his peers:

"Also, contrary to other fighters, particularly Puerto Rican boxers, his personal life was not one of partying. He was dedicated in training."

This dedication showed in Cotto's performances. Arum recalled:

"He is one of the best fighters of our time. There are great memories in New York and Las Vegas. He never backed down to fight anyone. He was a brave warrior. He fought the best around him, be it Manny Pacquiao or Margarito. It was always against someone at the top. There was never a problem accepting a fight."

Cotto's career, while not always in the spotlight, left an indelible mark on the sport. His willingness to take on tough opponents and his success across multiple weight classes make Arum's assessment of him as underrated seem spot on.

As Arum continues to shape the careers of today's boxing stars, his recognition of Cotto serves as a reminder of the less-heralded heroes of the sport. It's a testament to Cotto's skill, dedication, and impact that such an experienced promoter holds him in such high esteem.
