Floyd Mayweather's daughter Yaya has reminded everyone of her father's unmatched financial success in boxing. She shared an Instagram post showing the top 5 pay-per-view fights in boxing history, with her dad featured in four of them.
The graphic Yaya shared showed Floyd's fight with Manny Pacquiao in 2015 as the biggest seller. It pulled in 4.6 million buys and made over $600 million. His 2017 match against Conor McGregor came close with 4.3 million buys.
Floyd's fights against Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez round out his dominance on the list. They sold 2.8 and 2.2 million pay-per-views respectively. The only non-Mayweather fight in the top 5 was Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield from 1997.
Yaya captioned her post with "b**h my daddy that thang too," seemingly sending a message to other boxing stars about her father's financial supremacy.
Floyd "Money" Mayweather built his brand on being the best in the ring and at the box office. Over his 21-year undefeated career, he earned more than $1.67 billion. He sold around 24 million pay-per-view units in total.
While Floyd's net worth is now closer to $400 million, his earnings set a bar that's hard to reach. But there's a new contender for boxing's richest star.
Canelo Alvarez's business manager, Richard Schaefer, thinks the Mexican fighter could become boxing's first true billionaire. Canelo's got financial smarts and just signed a massive deal with Saudi Arabia's Turki Alalshikh.
"Canelo is, without any question, the smartest businessman in boxing I have ever met... He's going to be the first fighter to break the billion-dollar net worth."
The deal is reportedly worth $500 million for four fights. Canelo's career earnings are already over $600 million. His next fight could be against Terence Crawford, with an expected $100 million payday.
But for Canelo, it's not all about the money. He said:
"If we talk about money, it's never enough. But I still enjoy boxing. That's why I'm here."
The boxing world is changing. Big fights are moving to Saudi Arabia, and fighters are using digital platforms more. While Floyd Mayweather set the bar incredibly high, we might see a new financial champion in the coming years.
