Ryan Garcia and Rolly Romero's Fight Purses Revealed: "One of us is getting shortchanged"

Garcia, known as 'KingRy', is looking to bounce back after a tough year. He had a win against Devin Haney overturned in 2024 due to a positive doping test, which led to a one-year ban. Now, he's eager to put that controversy behind him and show he's still a force to be reckoned with.

For Romero, it's a golden chance to prove himself against a big name in boxing. He's had his share of ups and downs lately, including losing his title to Isaac Cruz. A strong showing against Garcia could put him right back in the championship picture.

The fight means a lot for both men's careers. Garcia wants to regain his credibility and set himself up as a top player in the welterweight division. Romero sees it as the perfect opportunity to redeem himself and grab the spotlight once again.

Money's on the line too. Garcia is set to earn around $20 million for the fight, which is a big drop from the $50 million he made against Haney (including personal bets and sponsorships). For Romero, his purse of $5 million to $5.5 million will be his biggest payday yet – a big jump from the $850,000 to $950,000 he earned against Cruz.

"This fight is my chance to show everyone I'm back and better than ever," Garcia said at a press conference. "I've learned from my mistakes and I'm ready to prove myself in the ring."

Romero shared his thoughts too:

"Garcia might have the name, but I've got the hunger. I'm going to shock a lot of people on May 2nd."

The Garcia-Romero showdown is just one part of a big boxing weekend. Fans can also look forward to Devin Haney taking on Jose Carlos Ramirez, and Teofimo Lopez defending his title against Arnold Barboza Jr.

With titles, reputations, and millions of dollars at stake, the Times Square fight night is shaping up to be a can't-miss event for boxing fans. It's more than just a fight – it's a chance for two careers to be redefined in one night.
