William Scull gets ready to face Canelo Alvarez in a huge super middleweight title fight. The match will happen on May 3, 2025, at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Scull, who holds a world title and boasts a perfect record of 23 wins with 9 knockouts, finds himself in the spotlight. Some fans and experts wanted to see Canelo fight other opponents like David Benavidez, a rematch with Dmitry Bivol, or even Golovkin. Instead, they'll see the Mexican star defend his unified super middleweight championship against Scull.
The challenger doesn't take kindly to those who question his right to be in the ring with Canelo. In an interview with Azteca Deportes, Scull fired back at his critics:
"To those who say that William Scull is a bum, no, I am a world champion and the position I have is because I earned it, nothing has been given to me, I earned the belt."
Scull points out that he's fought in four different countries and made his way to the top without major TV or promoter backing. He compares his journey to that of famous boxers like Oscar De La Hoya and Juan Manuel Marquez, who ironically are among those questioning his credentials.
"It bothers me that they are boxers from below like me, from scratch. My story, like that of every fighter, has been difficult."
Canelo Alvarez brings a wealth of experience to the fight. Over his 17-year career, he's had 62 fights and won 58 of them. Scull knows he's in for a tough night but feels confident in his abilities.
"I have faced many different styles of boxers and I have always defended and attacked. I am a fighter for life who is going to go out and give everything in every fight and tactically, we are very good."
Scull aims to unify the super middleweight division by beating Canelo. He'll have his chance to prove all his doubters wrong and show he belongs at the top level when he steps into the ring in Saudi Arabia next May.
