Ryan Garcia Reveals His Dream Opponent: "It's Personal"

Garcia's career hit a snag when he tested positive for clomifene before his fight with Devin Haney in April 2024. That bout went ahead, and Garcia won by majority decision, dropping Haney several times at the Barclays Center in New York. But the victory didn't stand. Officials later ruled the fight a no-contest, letting Haney keep his unbeaten record.

Now, Garcia's focus is on his upcoming fight against Rolando 'Rolly' Romero. It's a chance for him to show he's still got what it takes after a year away from the sport.

But Garcia's dreams go beyond just this next fight. He's got his sights set on a bigger prize: a rematch with Gervonta Davis. In a recent chat with DAZN Boxing, Garcia made it clear who he wants to face.

"I would want a rematch with [Gervonta] Tank Davis."

It's not hard to see why Garcia wants another shot at Davis. Two years ago, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Davis handed Garcia his first professional loss. Davis won that non-title bout with a knockout in the seventh round, landing a brutal body shot that put Garcia down for the count.

Davis has been busy too. On March 1, 2024, he defended his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach Jr. The fight went the full 12 rounds and ended in a split decision draw. Now, Davis is likely to face Roach again in a rematch planned for summer 2024, with an official announcement expected soon.

As Garcia prepares for his return, the boxing world watches with interest. Will he be able to shake off the rust from his suspension? Can he climb back to the top of the lightweight division? And will he get that rematch with Davis he's hoping for? The answers will start to come on May 2 in Times Square.
