Alvarez's first fight under the new deal will take place on May 3rd, 2025, in Saudi Arabia against William Scull. The undisputed super middleweight champion aims to cement his legacy further.
In a recent interview with DAZN, Alvarez shared his motivation:
"I'm already the undisputed super middleweight champion, so now I'm going to be the undisputed two-time champion. The motivation is to see new countries, fight in new countries and at this stage of my career."
The contract also outlines potential future bouts. A clash with Terence Crawford in Las Vegas might happen in September 2025. There's even talk of a rematch with Bivol in 2026, though that's not set in stone yet.
Jake Paul had been pushing for a fight with Canelo, claiming he had signed a non-disclosure agreement and was ready to promote the event. However, Alvarez dismissed the idea, stating:
"You have to play your cards right. It wouldn't be a fight, but it would be an event. It's not happening for now."
The news left Jake Paul upset, as the content creator had been insisting on facing the Mexican champion.
Plans for a potential fight with Gervonta 'Tank' Davis also fell through. Davis' recent draw with Lamont Roach Jr. put a damper on those discussions.
Turki Alalshikh's lucrative offer from Riyadh Season ultimately sealed the deal for Canelo. The contract promises to keep the champion busy and well-compensated for the next couple of years.
