George Groves, a former super middleweight world champion, has shared his thoughts on a fantasy fight between his old rival Carl Froch and British boxing legend Joe Calzaghe.

Groves, known as 'The Saint' during his fighting days, believes Calzaghe would come out on top in this hypothetical matchup. He shared his analysis in a recent interview with Grosvenor Casinos.

"Even Froch would say that he couldn't match Joe Calzaghe for hand speed, punch output, or endurance. He'd have to punch with him and he'd back himself to do so."

Groves pointed out that Calzaghe's advantages in hand speed, punch output, and endurance would be crucial. However, he also noted that Calzaghe could be knocked down, which might give Froch a chance.

Froch, who beat Groves twice in their memorable rivalry, had an impressive career. He scored wins over top fighters like Mikkel Kessler, Jermain Taylor, and Lucian Bute. His two victories over Groves, particularly the second more conclusive one, cemented his legacy. These achievements led to his induction into the Boxing Hall of Fame.

Calzaghe's career was even more stellar. He retired undefeated and holds the record for the longest reign as super middleweight world champion. He also claimed the light heavyweight title and notched wins over legends like Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones Jr, and Jeff Lacy. Calzaghe was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame over a decade ago.

Groves acknowledged Froch's strengths, calling him an underrated boxer with a good, long jab and an awkward style. He praised Froch's never-say-die attitude and his power in the later rounds of fights.

Despite these qualities, Groves still favored Calzaghe. He believed Calzaghe's hand speed, footwork, ability to create angles, and skill at preventing opponents from setting would be the deciding factors.

Frank Warren, Calzaghe's former promoter, agrees with Groves' assessment. He also picks Calzaghe to win this dream matchup.

It's worth noting that Calzaghe's career briefly overlapped with a young Froch, but they never met in the ring. This fantasy matchup lets fans imagine what might have been if these two British boxing greats had faced off in their primes.
