Terence Crawford got people talking when he questioned Errol Spence Jr.'s legacy and Hall of Fame worthiness. The Nebraska native made these comments as he gets ready for his toughest test yet against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in September.
Crawford sat down with MMA stars Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo to chat about his dream of becoming a world champion. During the conversation, he made it clear he doesn't dislike Spence. But he's not happy with critics who he feels downplay his achievements to make Spence look better.
'Bud' Crawford said:
"They're tarnishing my achievement of moving up in weight to beat Spence. Right now, I don't think Errol Spence should be in the Hall of Fame. He fought in one division, was called a weight bully, and beat Kell Brook after a loss and eye injury. He did beat Shawn Porter, though."
Boxing specialist Showbizz The Adult thinks Crawford's comments might backfire. He pointed out:
"Crawford's actually belittling his own resume by criticizing shared opponents. Take Kell Brook, for example. He faced Spence with an unrecovered eye injury, but when Crawford fought him three years later, Brook was possibly in even worse shape mentally and physically. And let's not forget Amir Khan, who was completely destroyed when Crawford faced him. Crawford needs to stop doing that. I think he's great, but please stop doing that, brother!"
Crawford's comments come as he prepares for his biggest challenge yet. He'll face Canelo Alvarez in September, a fight that will test his skills like never before. It's a big step up for Crawford, who's moving up in weight once again.
As the fight draws closer, fans will keep a close eye on both fighters. Crawford's recent comments have certainly added some extra spice to the build-up. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in the ring come September.
