Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are gearing up for a fight that's got everyone talking. Two fighters who've beaten Eubank Jr in the past, Liam Smith and George Groves, have weighed in with their thoughts on who'll come out on top.
Eubank Jr's got the edge when it comes to experience. He's faced tough opponents like Billy Joe Saunders, Arthur Abraham, and James DeGale. He even went toe-to-toe with George Groves in a world title fight at super-middleweight, though he came up short on points. Last year, Eubank Jr had a rollercoaster ride with Liam Smith, losing by knockout in their first bout but coming back strong with a KO win just six months later.
On the other side, Benn's record isn't as packed. He's only had two low-key 10-round fights in the last couple of years. His best wins? Knockouts against Chris Algieri and Samuel Vargas, but both were past their prime. Benn's also facing a size disadvantage, jumping up two weight divisions for this fight.
George Groves thinks Eubank Jr's got this one in the bag. He said:
"I'd always really pick Eubank Jr to beat Benn. He's naturally bigger, has been in bigger fights, is more experienced, dealt with the pressure."
But Groves isn't counting Benn out completely. He added:
"I'm not sure what state Connor Benn's head is at right now, maybe it's a good time to get Eubank, maybe not. He looks a force on the pads but I haven't seen him fight in a long time."
Liam Smith's prediction? He's going with Eubank Jr on points. But he's not ruling out other possibilities:
"I still pick Chris on points. But I won't be surprised if Conor catches Chris and knocks Eubank out. And I won't be surprised if Chris stops Conor. Conor has been down off littler people than Chris."
It's worth noting that former world champ Amir Khan is bucking the trend, picking Benn to win. But with Eubank Jr's size and experience advantage, it looks like he's the favorite in most people's eyes.
Benn's recent return to the ring might give us more clues about his current form. But for now, it seems like Eubank Jr's got the edge in this much-anticipated matchup.
