Oscar De La Hoya has thrown a jab at Floyd Mayweather's undefeated record. The former six-division world champion claims several fighters actually beat Mayweather during his career.
De La Hoya, known as "The Golden Boy," made waves with his recent social media post. He pointed to specific fights where he believes Mayweather should have lost.
"I promoted 10 Mayweather fights so I know what really happened. Castillo beat him, Maidana beat him and I beat him when I was over the hill. Plus should have been disqualified in the Zab Judah fight."
De La Hoya's boxing career was impressive. He won gold at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and grabbed world titles in six weight divisions as a pro. He defeated a number of great fighters during his time as a professional, including Ike Quartey, Julio Cesar Chavez, and Pernell Whitaker.
But Mayweather got the better of De La Hoya when they met in May 2007. The fight went the full 12 rounds at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Mayweather won by split decision and took De La Hoya's WBC light middleweight title.
After losing to Mayweather, De La Hoya had two more fights. He beat Steve Forbes on points but lost his final bout to Manny Pacquiao in December 2008 when he was stopped in the eighth round.
Now, years later, De La Hoya is challenging the narrative of Mayweather's perfect record. He claims Jose Luis Castillo and Marcos Maidana both beat Mayweather. He also believes Mayweather should have been disqualified in his fight with Zab Judah.
De La Hoya's comments on social media have stirred up old rivalries and opened debates about some of Mayweather's closest fights. The boxing world will be watching to see if Mayweather responds to these claims about his undefeated record.
