Eubank Jr and Benn are set to face off on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The fight, rescheduled from October 2022 due to Benn's positive drug test, continues the long-standing rivalry between the Eubank and Benn families.
Recently, tensions flared at a press conference when Eubank Jr hit Benn with an egg. This action didn't sit well with Eubank Sr, who expressed his disappointment.
"I was extremely disappointed by the incident at the press conference where Chris Jr smashed an egg into Conor Benn's face and his choice to use profanity … The Eubank legacy is built on discipline, respect, and professionalism, and this incident falls short of those values."
Despite the upcoming fight with Benn, Eubank Sr believes his son should set his sights on a bigger target. In an interview with Ring Magazine, he said:
"To beat Canelo, he must listen and adhere to his father. His trainer. The one with the all-seeing eye. If I take an interest in a fight, and I do have an interest in this one, it's because it is real. If Junior truly wants to cement his legacy, then there is only one road left. And that road leads to Canelo Alvarez."
A fight with Canelo might not be far-fetched. Turki Alalshikh of Riyadh Season has shown interest in making a fight between the Eubank vs Benn winner and Canelo Alvarez, possibly in early 2026.
Canelo, currently seen as the face of boxing, has a busy schedule ahead. He'll face William Scull in May 2025, aiming to become a two-time undisputed super-middleweight champion. A fight with Terence Crawford is also planned for September 2025.
For Eubank Jr, the path to Canelo might involve beating Benn, possibly twice due to a rematch clause. It's a long road, but one his father believes could lead to a legacy-defining moment.
