The egg slap kicked off the promotion for their April 26 fight at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This matchup continues the rivalry between their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, who fought in the nineties in what became the UK's most memorable boxing feud.
Eubank Jr. and Benn were set to fight in October 2022, but the bout got called off after Benn tested positive for clomifene, a banned substance. Benn's suspension ended late last year, and he's had two low-level fights overseas since then.
Chris Eubank Sr. wasn't happy with his son's behavior. On his YouTube channel, he said:
"This is not behavior I understand. Where did that come from? I'm supposed to be his example. But I spoke to him a few days ago."
Eubank Jr. explained his actions to his father:
"Dad, he's a cheat and we're promoting the fight. These people have me under a great deal of pressure and the environment is very messy. I got pulled in. Yes I pre-meditated it because these people are all over me telling me my dad doesn't like me. It's me alone, Dad, so that's what I did and I've justified it."
The fight will take place in the middleweight division. Promoters expect a stadium sell-out and lots of media attention in the lead-up to the event. The British Boxing Board of Control and UK Anti-Doping Agency lifted Benn's suspension after a review of his case.
The undercard features other notable British fighters including Liam Smith, Chris Billam-Smith, Viddal Riley, and Chev Clarke. With press conferences planned in Manchester and London, this event will likely dominate boxing headlines in the coming weeks.
