The fight was originally set for October 2022 but got canceled when Benn tested positive for a banned substance. Benn won his case with the National Anti Doping Panel in the UK late last year, which allowed talks with Eubank to start up again.
They'll meet at 160 lbs, which gives an edge to Eubank as the naturally bigger fighter. Benn, who's 28, usually fights at welterweight, two divisions below. He's only had two low-key fights in the last two years, winning both on points.
Eubank Jr has been busier. He lost his first fight against Liam Smith by knockout but won the rematch the same way. He also stopped Kamil Szeremeta in October 2024.
Nelson shared his thoughts in an interview with Sky Sports Boxing:
"At one point I said Conor Benn was one of the most improving fighters I'd seen until his career came to a stop. So through inconsistency in his career, I'm leaning toward Chris. Chris is the naturally bigger fighter, he can fight, he's been in with a higher calibre of opponent, he's been busier than Conor, so you've got to go with common sense."
Nelson added: "I just don't think Conor has been active enough as a professional fighter to win this fight."
Benn will try to prove Nelson wrong when he steps into the ring. The fight promises to be a big event, with both boxers having been on a collision course for years.
