Canelo Alvarez, the Mexican boxing superstar, has admitted Floyd Mayweather was better than him when they fought in 2013. The four-weight world champion shared this honest reflection during a recent interview with DAZN Boxing.
Alvarez has been at the forefront of boxing for over a decade. He's held world titles from super-welterweight all the way up to light heavyweight. Right now, he's the current WBC, WBA, and WBO super-middleweight champion.
Throughout his career, Canelo has faced some of the best fighters in the sport. He's traded punches with the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Shane Mosley, Sergey Kovalev, and Miguel Cotto. But it's his fight with Floyd Mayweather that still stands out.

, Canelo said:"In that moment, he was better than me."
This admission comes after Mayweather handed Canelo a comfortable points loss back in 2013. It was Canelo's first professional defeat, and he's only lost once since then - to Dmitry Bivol at 175lbs in 2022.
Canelo's not dwelling on past losses, though. He's got his eyes set on the future. In May 2025, he'll face William Scull for the IBF super-middleweight championship. If he wins, he'll become the undisputed champion at 168lbs once again.
But the fight everyone's talking about is scheduled for September 2025. Canelo will take on Terence 'Bud' Crawford in Las Vegas. Crawford's moving up two weight divisions from 154lbs for this bout. Both fighters are considered pound-for-pound stars, making this one of the most anticipated fights of the year.
Canelo's honesty about his loss to Mayweather shows his growth as a fighter. He's learned from that experience and used it to become one of boxing's biggest stars. Now, he's ready to face new challenges and create more boxing history.
