Anthony Joshua's Team Weighs Risky Bout: "It's a Career-Defining Moment"

Joshua's career started with a bang. He won gold at the 2012 London Olympics and quickly became a pro star. In 2016, he grabbed the IBF belt from Charles Martin. The next year, he had a huge fight at Wembley Stadium, beating Wladimir Klitschko to unify titles. In 2018, he added the WBO title by going the distance with Joseph Parker for the first time.

But things got rocky after that. In 2019, Andy Ruiz shocked everyone by stopping Joshua and taking his belts. Joshua got them back in the rematch, but then lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022. His most recent fight didn't go well either - Daniel Dubois stopped him in five rounds earlier this year.

Now, Joshua's looking for a way back. He's got an offer to fight Joseph Parker, who's the interim WBO champion. Parker just knocked out Martin Bakole in two rounds, so he's in good form. If Joshua takes this fight and wins, he'll be next in line for a shot at Usyk's title.

Parker talked about the potential fight on The Ariel Helwani Show. He said:

"Let's push for it. I agree. As we focus on my career, I think those three names will be next in line. I think [Joshua] would accept the fight with me. It would be a very different fight to 2018. We're both older, maturer, wiser. The fighter that I was before, sometimes I look back and go 'who is that guy?'"

The heavyweight division's pretty busy right now. Usyk's the champ, and he'll probably fight Dubois soon for all the belts.

One fight fans won't see is Joshua vs Tyson Fury. That fight's off the table now that Fury's retired after losing to Usyk in January.

Joshua's got a tough decision to make. The Parker fight is risky, but it could put him right back in the title picture. We'll have to wait and see what he decides to do next.
