Gervonta Davis feels sad about Adrien Broner's career. The WBA lightweight champion shared his thoughts before his upcoming fight this Saturday.
Davis, who holds a perfect record of 30 wins with 28 knockouts, will defend his lightweight belt against Lamont Roach at the Barclays Center in New York. The fight marks Davis' second defense of his title.
In a recent interview with Sommer Hill, Davis opened up about Broner's career:
"It's heartbreaking to see someone like Adrien [Broner]. Someone that had the potential to be one of the greatest fighters ever, and he didn't reach his full potential. I seen him at his peak, so it's like damn."
Broner's career started with great promise. He became a four-weight world champion, winning titles at super-featherweight, lightweight, super-lightweight, and welterweight. At 26, he became the second-youngest boxer to achieve this feat, just behind Oscar De La Hoya who did it at 24.
But Broner's career took a downturn both inside and outside the ring. He lost to big names like Manny Pacquiao, Marcos Maidana, Shawn Porter, and Mikey Garcia. Since January 2019, Broner has only fought three times. He won twice against lesser-known opponents and lost his last fight to Blair Cobbs in June 2024.
Davis, known as 'Tank', has made a name for himself in the lightweight, super-featherweight, and super-lightweight divisions. His upcoming fight against Roach will test his skills once again.
The boxing world continues to evolve, with new challenges always on the horizon. Recently, Terence Crawford claimed he knows two fighters who could beat Davis, adding another layer of intrigue to the lightweight division's future.
