Canelo's dance card is full for most of 2024. He'll face William Scull in May, trying to become the undisputed champion at 168 pounds by adding the IBF title to his WBC, WBA, and WBO belts. Then in September, he's set to take on Terence Crawford, who's moving up two weight classes for a shot at becoming a five-weight world champion.
But after that, things get interesting. Canelo's deal with Riyadh Season leaves room for two more fights. That's where Sheeraz sees his opening.
First, Sheeraz has to take care of business. He's fighting Carlos Adames for the WBC middleweight title in Saudi Arabia this weekend. If he wins, he thinks it could lead to a showdown with Canelo.
"Why not? He's one of my boxing heroes, and I think if you don't aim to fight the best you're in the wrong game," Sheeraz said. "Especially now when fights can happen just like that with His Excellency, so hopefully come Saturday night I get it done and then it's a big possibility."
At 6'3", Sheeraz is a tall order for the middleweight division. Fans call him a 'monster' because of his size and power. He's knocked out every opponent he's faced so far.
While Sheeraz is eager to test himself against Canelo, not everyone feels the same way. One unnamed world champion has reportedly lost interest in facing the Mexican star. But for Sheeraz, the chance to face one of his boxing heroes is too good to pass up.
For now, all eyes are on Sheeraz's fight this weekend. If he can add another knockout to his record and claim the WBC middleweight title, he'll be one step closer to his dream fight with Canelo.
