Carl Froch wants Derek Chisora to call it quits on his boxing career. The former champion believes it's time for Chisora, a fan favorite in the heavyweight division, to hang up his gloves.
Retiring from boxing is often one of the toughest decisions a fighter has to make. Froch knows this firsthand. He ended his career on a high note, knocking out George Groves in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium. That kind of perfect ending is rare in the sport.
The heavyweight division is seeing several big names nearing the end of their careers. Deontay Wilder hasn't fought since June when Zhilei Zhang knocked him out. Tyson Fury said he was done after losing twice to Oleksandr Usyk. Some think Anthony Joshua should retire after Daniel Dubois stopped him in his last fight.
Froch shared his thoughts about Chisora on his YouTube channel, "Froch On Fighting". He said:
"Derek Chisora is 41 now. He sounds a bit slow in some interviews and sometimes switches off. I wouldn't want to see Daniel Dubois teeing off on Derek Chisora and landing at will with big, heavy right hands all night long. Derek's been a great servant to boxing. He's had a great career, pulled wins out of the bag, and he's been great to watch. He's entertaining. He's lost a big chunk of fights but he's been in with the best of the best. I think he should hang up the gloves and look back on his career. For the sake of his health."
Chisora just had his 49th fight earlier this month, losing to Otto Wallin by late stoppage. He's hinted that he might choose his final opponent with a coin toss.
Froch believes Chisora has nothing left to prove. He's fought the best, entertained fans, and had a great career. Now, Froch thinks it's time for Chisora to protect his health and legacy by stepping away from the ring.
