Francis Ngannou wants to fight Wladimir Klitschko. The former MMA superstar has lost his first two boxing matches to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Now he's looking for his next opponent.
Klitschko keeps hinting at a return to boxing. He and his brother Vitali dominated the heavyweight division from 2004 to 2015. Wladimir lost his unified belts to Tyson Fury in 2015 and then lost to Anthony Joshua in 2017. That was his last fight.
The Ukrainian legend's record stands at 64 wins from 69 fights. He holds the record for most wins and title defenses of the unified championship. Now, he's thinking about coming back to break George Foreman's record as the oldest heavyweight world champion.
Ngannou recently told Sportsbook Review that Klitschko could be an option for his next fight.
"Wladimir Klitschko could be an option."
A fight with Ngannou might be an easier return for Klitschko. But it doesn't fit with his goal of becoming a world champion again. Klitschko seems more interested in fighting the winner of the Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker fight at the end of this month.
Dubois has said he'd be open to fighting Klitschko if he keeps his belt. But there's a problem. Oleksandr Usyk wants to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion. He's got his eye on the winner of Dubois-Parker too. Usyk won't fight his countryman Klitschko.
Ngannou might have to look elsewhere for his next fight. He's also mentioned Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora as possible opponents.
Klitschko's career stats are impressive. With 64 wins from 69 fights, he's got the record for most wins and title defenses of the unified championship. Whether he'll add to those numbers remains to be seen.
