Canelo Alvarez thinks Muhammad Ali is the best boxer ever. The Mexican superstar shared his opinion during a recent GQ feature.
Alvarez has won world titles in four weight classes from super-welterweight to light heavyweight. He's the undisputed champion at 168lbs and has fought at the highest level for over a decade. His list of wins includes names like Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Caleb Plant, Billy Joe Saunders, and Callum Smith.
When asked about Muhammad Ali in the GQ feature, Canelo didn't hesitate:
"The best in the world – of all time."
Ali was a global phenomenon and three-time world heavyweight champion. He fought legendary battles against George Foreman, Joe Frazier, and Sonny Liston. When he retired in 1981, Ali had 56 victories and 5 defeats. Many people consider him the greatest boxer of all time, though Ali once named a heavyweight rival he thought was better than himself.
Right now, Canelo is working on his own legacy. He's looking to fight Terence Crawford in September. The negotiations have been tough, and there was even talk of Jake Paul as an alternative opponent. But that idea got shut down quickly. If the Crawford fight happens, it could shape how both fighters are remembered.
