Floyd Mayweather Jr. looks back on his perfect 50-0 career, sharing thoughts on two of his toughest opponents: Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya.
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1976, Mayweather started his boxing journey early. He got a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta before turning pro that same year. Over his career, he won world titles in five different weight classes.
In 2007, Mayweather faced Oscar De La Hoya for the WBC light middleweight title. He won by split decision in a close fight. After the match, Mayweather said:
"I was having fun in there. It was a hell of a fight. It was easy work for me. I could see his shots coming. I stayed on the outside and made him miss."
But when asked about his toughest opponent, Mayweather picked a different fighter. In a recent interview, he said:
"Pacquiao [is the best I've faced]. It's because of his movement. He's a hell of a fighter, and I can see why he won so many fights, and I can see why he's going down as a Hall of Famer. It's just certain moves he makes."
Mayweather and Pacquiao finally met in the ring in 2015 for what was called the "Fight Of The Century". Mayweather won by unanimous decision, keeping his WBC and WBA welterweight titles and taking Pacquiao's WBO belt.
After beating Pacquiao, Mayweather fought twice more as a pro. He won against Andre Berto by decision in September 2015. His last pro fight was in August 2017 when he beat UFC star Conor McGregor by TKO in the 10th round.
Since retiring from pro boxing, Mayweather has taken part in exhibition matches. He's faced fighters like Tenshin Nasukawa, Logan Paul, and Aaron Chalmers. These matches don't count towards his official record, which stays at a perfect 50-0.
