Wilder's last fight ended in a tough loss. Zhilei Zhang knocked him down inside five rounds in June 2024. Before that, Joseph Parker outpointed him in December 2023. These defeats came after a quick knockout win over Robert Helenius in 2022.
The Bronze Bomber's career took a hit with two damaging losses to Tyson Fury. Those fights put a lot of miles on the clock and cost Wilder his WBC title. But he's not ready to hang up his gloves just yet.
Wilder has decided to make a comeback. He aims to find the form that led to 42 knockouts in 43 wins. His next fight is set for April against Curtis Harper.
Tyson Fury, who recently retired after two losses to Oleksandr Usyk, shared his thoughts on Wilder's power with talkSPORT Boxing.
"Deontay Wilder has dynamite in his fists. If he lands on you, whether it's round one or round 12, he's going to knock you down or knock you out."
Fury explained why he could withstand Wilder's power better than others:
"I think my sheer size and weight has a lot to do with him not being able to knock me out cold. He hits a guy 6ft 3ins and 225lbs, they're nailed to the canvas. But a guy 6ft 9ins and 277lbs – I think that has a lot to do with it, size matters."
Many boxing fans hope Fury will change his mind about retirement and face Anthony Joshua. For now, all eyes are on Wilder as he attempts to climb back to the top of the heavyweight division.
