Julio Cesar Chavez thinks Canelo Alvarez will knock out Terence Crawford in their upcoming super middleweight title fight. The boxing legend shared his prediction in a recent interview.
Canelo and Crawford are set to face off in September, with Alvarez's WBC, WBA, and WBO super middleweight titles on the line. Chavez, a 62-year-old Mexican icon and three-weight world champion, gave his thoughts on the match-up to ESNEWS.
"Canelo will knock him out in six or seven rounds. Crawford is good fighter but there's weight classes."
Crawford, who's 37 and from Omaha, Nebraska, faces a tough challenge. He'll jump up to 168lbs and try to become a five-division world champion.
Canelo has been a force in the super middleweight division. He became undisputed champion in 2021 by beating Caleb Plant. Since then, he's defended his titles against Gennady Golovkin, Jermell Charlo, and Jaime Munguia. Last summer, he lost his IBF belt when he didn't fight mandatory challenger William Scull.
Crawford moved up in weight last August. He won the WBA light middleweight title from Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles. But his performance wasn't as impressive as usual.
Eddie Hearn, who used to promote Canelo, also thinks Crawford might be making a mistake. He believes Canelo's natural size advantage will be too much for the undefeated American to overcome.
