The fight was originally set for October 2022 but got called off when Benn tested positive for a banned substance. Since then, Benn has fought twice outside the UK, beating Rodolfo Orozco and Peter Dobson. He's also been in a legal battle with the British Boxing Board of Control and UK Anti-Doping Agency. Now, his suspension has been lifted, and he's cleared to fight on home soil again.
Eubank Jr, at 35, has more experience at the top level. He's fought guys like George Groves, Billy Joe Saunders, and beat Arthur Abraham and James DeGale. DeGale was a former IBF super middleweight world champion.
Carl Froch thinks Eubank Jr will win. On his YouTube channel, Froch On Fighting, he said:
"I just think that all the variables and you look at whose done what and whose the bigger, stronger man, and whose got the experience at world level you're gonna have to say Chris Eubank Jr. He's fought [George] Groves, he's fought Billy Joe Saunders, he beat Arthur Abraham and James DeGale a former IBF super middleweight world champion. So he's performed at a better level and proven that at a higher weight he kinda belongs at the world level, where Conor Benn hasn't done anything. He's done nothing."
Froch thinks Eubank Jr will be too big and strong for Benn. But he's worried about Eubank Jr's age (nearly 36) and a possible rehydration clause.
The fight's a big deal because of the history between their dads. Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn had a bitter feud in the 1990s.
The undercard for the event looks solid too, with names like Liam Smith, Anthony Yarde, Chris Billam-Smith, and Viddal Riley set to fight.
There's a lot to think about with this matchup. Eubank Jr usually fights at 168 pounds, while Benn's a 147-pounder who's fought at 154. It'll be interesting to see how they handle the weight difference and if it affects the fight.
