Former World Champ Declines Jake Paul Bout: "I'd Feel Bad"

Paul, known as 'The Problem Child', won his bout against the 58-year-old boxing legend by unanimous decision. The fight stirred up controversy due to the age difference and Tyson's long absence from professional boxing. Paul's record now stands at 11-1, with his only defeat coming against Tommy Fury in February 2023.

Former world champion Amir Khan recently turned down the chance to face Paul. Khan told The Sports Daily he met with Paul's team for a "mini-negotiation."

"When I sat with them it was like a mini-negotiation [about] if I would ever step back in that ring again. I do say they're very honest. I have a lot of respect for them. That's why I would probably, if I was going to fight again, it'd be for someone like them. Because I respectfully think that they're looking after the sport, and they're looking after the fighters."

Despite the positive meeting, Khan said the weight difference between them is too big for a fair fight.

"We had a little chit chat about how boxing is going and stuff like that. I made it clear to them that Jake's weight is too big. He's too heavy. I walk around at 175. He walks around at 210. I think it'd be a mismatch. But there's other fights out there."

Khan added that Paul's team mentioned they have a few names they'll get back to him with. He's open to possibly working with them in the future, but hasn't decided if he'll return to the ring.

The British boxer's opinion of Paul has changed since they met in person. Khan previously had harsh words for the 27-year-old, but now shows respect.

"When I met Jake in person – lovely guy, believe it or not. Huge respect. Look, at the end of the day, it's all entertainment. And I just feel that, sometimes you have to say things to sell something, or sometimes you have to say something to get that audience engaged. We know that. And obviously he was cool with it. I was cool with it, and we just moved forward. He showed a lot of respect, he was just being nice."

Paul's search for an opponent continues. He recently turned down a potential title shot, saying the opponent wasn't "tough enough." Fans will have to wait and see who steps up to face 'The Problem Child' in his next bout.
