Ryan Garcia Reveals Surprising Pick for Crawford-Ennis Showdown: "No Contest"

Ronald Crawley Nov. 4, 2024, 5:10 p.m.

Crawford recently moved up to super-welterweight and became a four-division world champion. He made this move after beating Errol Spence Jr to become the undisputed welterweight champion. Ennis currently holds the IBF World Championship at welterweight and has defended it once. He's getting ready to face Karen Chukhadzhian again in a mandatory defense, having beaten him last year.

When asked about a potential fight between Crawford and Ennis, Garcia said:

"I like Boots. In my opinion I like Boots [to win that fight.] I don't think Crawford could keep up with somebody that talented and young and fast. I don't. I haven't even seen him fight somebody talented, young and fast. Have you? Can you name one? I think Boots gets his ass. Not by a lot, but I think he beats him … I'd go with the youth."

Garcia believes Crawford hasn't faced anyone with Ennis' combination of talent, youth, and speed. He thinks these qualities would give Ennis the edge, even if it's not by a wide margin.

Ennis has said he's willing to move up to super-welterweight to make the fight happen. However, Crawford doesn't seem keen on the idea right now. He's more focused on trying to secure a fight with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Ennis' main goal is to unify titles at welterweight. If that doesn't work out, he might move up in weight. This move would bring him closer to a fight with Crawford, which many fans want to see.

Garcia shared his prediction while serving a one-year doping ban. You can watch his full interview on the Say Cheese podcast.
