Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez has weighed in on the potential fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford. The debate around this matchup continues to stir up the boxing world, even though the two fighters operate in different weight classes.
Canelo holds all the belts at super-middleweight and has even fought as high as 175lbs. His reign as the unified super-middleweight champion remains unchallenged. Crawford, on the other hand, just won the WBA super-welterweight title in his first fight at 154lbs. He started his career as a lightweight but insists the weight difference wouldn't be a problem against Alvarez.
Rodriguez, the current WBC super-flyweight champion and former unified flyweight champ, shared his thoughts on the potential matchup. He's got his own plans to move up through the divisions and become a multi-weight world champion.
Speaking on Cigar Talk, Rodriguez said:
"Canelo might be too big, but Crawford has the skills to hang in there with Canelo. It's a good fight. I've sparred bigger guys but I have the skill to hang in there with him. I think Crawford is one of those fighters as well."
Rodriguez's prediction leans towards Canelo's size advantage, but he doesn't count Crawford out. He draws from his own experience of sparring bigger opponents, acknowledging that skill can often bridge the gap in size.
Fans are hopeful they'll get to see Crawford and Alvarez face off in 2025. Until then, the debate will surely continue to rage on in the boxing community.
