Gervonta Davis, the WBA lightweight champion, is waiting for news about his next fight. His title defense against Lamont Roach, set for December, got pushed back. Now fans are left wondering when 'Tank' will step into the ring again.
Davis, who's 30 years old, is getting some heat from boxing fans. They want to see him fight bigger names in the division. Roach, who's moving up from super-featherweight, isn't the kind of opponent they're hoping for.
Tim Bradley, a former two-weight world champion and Hall of Famer, didn't hold back when talking about Davis. He told Fighthype:
"Before Shakur signed for [Joe] Cordina, there was a perfect opportunity to negotiate with Shakur. Tell me the last top A dog where 'Tank' didn't suck them down on weight to have an advantage like he did with [Ryan] Garcia. Frank Martin is green. It's like to me Tank is a 30-year-old prospect."
Bradley thinks Davis isn't fighting the best out there. He says Davis gets weight advantages against his opponents and has been protected by his promotional company, PBC.
"Fight Shakur," Bradley challenged. "People say he tried to fight Lomachenko. You could have had that five six years ago but you were in PBC protective custody. They've built a hell of a product, but what are you scared of. Put this dude in there with a lion."
There's been talk about a big fight between Davis and Shakur Stevenson, the WBC champion. But that showdown hasn't happened yet. Davis has said Stevenson needs to beat one more guy before he'll consider fighting him.
The Roach fight was supposed to be Davis' next step, but now that's on hold. Fans and critics alike are waiting to see who Davis will face next and when he'll take on the division's top fighters.
