Floyd Mayweather, a boxing legend, has shared his list of the top five fighters of all time. The former champion, who retired with an unbeaten record of 50-0, gave his perspective on boxing greatness in a recent interview.
Mayweather's career was nothing short of remarkable. He won world titles in five different weight classes, ruling from super-featherweight all the way up to super-welterweight. His list of conquered opponents reads like a who's who of boxing, including names like Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Miguel Cotto.
In a video shared online, Mayweather revealed his top five fighters. Unsurprisingly, he put himself at the top of the list.
For the second spot, Mayweather didn't hesitate. "We gotta go Pernell Whitaker," he said. Whitaker, a four-weight world champion, is often considered one of the greatest defensive boxers ever to step into the ring.
The third position went to Roberto Duran. "I'm gonna go Roberto Duran," Mayweather stated. Duran's career was truly impressive, spanning 103 wins with 70 knockouts. Like Whitaker, he also conquered four weight divisions.
Larry Holmes took the fourth spot on Mayweather's list. He explained his choice: "I got to say Larry Holmes. That man had the basic fundamentals, he had the jab, and even right now he's still living a great life because he made smart investments. He was good from the beginning of his career to the end of his career." Holmes held the world heavyweight title from 1978 to 1985 and famously defeated Muhammad Ali.
"Aaron Pryor," Mayweather simply stated for his fifth pick.
Pryor, a two-time super-lightweight champion, finished his career with 39 wins and only 1 defeat, with 35 of those victories coming by knockout.
Mayweather's list shows his appreciation for a mix of skills, achievements, and longevity in the sport. While he's named these five as his top picks, the boxing world continues to debate the greatest of all time, with opinions varying widely among fans and experts alike.
