James Toney is one of the few bets on Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) in his third fight with Saul Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs). The trilogy between the two great contenders will take place on September 17. This time the opponents will meet in the super middleweight division, where all four championship belts belong to the Mexican. The first two fights were in the middleweight division.
"Canelo is a good opponent, but I'm betting on Golovkin," said the former middleweight, super middleweight and featherweight champion. It didn't take long for Tony to be champion at heavyweight as well, but his doping test came back positive and the American was stripped of his WBA belt, despite defeating John Ruiz.
"When I was at my peak, I would have beaten Canelo in three rounds. If someone got in front of me and moved the way he was trying to box, I would have missed his punches and kicked his ass with my counterattacks," Tony added.
