Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) will have to make a decision about his future within 5 days after the fight with Saul Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs). The fight between a boxer from Kazakhstan and a Mexican is scheduled for September 17 in Las Vegas.
GGG is currently the WBA middleweight champion of the world. The fight with Canelo will take place in the super middleweight category, and he will be at stake, including the World Boxing Association world title in this weight category. This means that if he wins, Golovkin will have WBA belts in two divisions at once.
The WBA has already announced that the boxer from Kazakhstan will have 5 days after the fight with Alvarez to decide in which weight category he wants to continue his career. If he decides to return to middleweight, he will have 120 days to cross gloves with Erislandy Lara (29-3-3, 17 KOs), who is the WBA "regular" champion in the 72.5 kg weight category.
In the event that Golovkin decides to stay in super middleweight, on the horizon he will have a fight with Cuban David Morrell (7-0, 6 KOs), who is also the owner of the regular belt. The September fight will be Golovkin's official debut in the weight category up to 76 kg.
