The American promoter is demanding $2 million of compensation from World of Boxing and Povetkin, which will be considered in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
“We are happy to sue, no problems, fine,” Ryabinsky said. “This is not for the first time. We have already tried the Manhattan court and won over dear Don King, and now he has filed a lawsuit in the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in Switzerland - it’s interesting. We will be bored, he is a great man, we have an interesting task and we will solve it."
Earlier, Ryabinsky sued King for $1.6 million for canceling a fight between the WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev and Guillermo Jones. This April Ryabinsky won a trial against American heavyweight Deontay Wilder after canceling the battle with Povetkin because of the doping scandal.
“We have already solved many legal problems, we will deal with another one,” Ryabinsky noted. “King filed a lawsuit due to the cancellation of the Povetkin fight with Stiverne in Yekaterinburg, when they found Ostarin — this was the second time after Meldonium, when he failed doping test. We defended his good name, his position, and we managed to prove that he was not guilty - he was consistently justified by all the federations, nevertheless the battle did not take place then, and this means that there is a reason for the trial, but King says, that as a result of the abolition of the battle with Povetkin Stivern he was right to havea championship fight which is not true. Stiverne then fought for the title of WBC world champion in which he lost to Wilder by knockout in the first round."
Date of consideration in the CAS is still unknown.
