Gervonta Davis thinks he'd beat Floyd Mayweather in a fight. The lightweight champ shared his thoughts during a recent chat with ES News.

Davis and Mayweather have a complicated history. Mayweather used to be Davis's mentor and promoter when he started out. But they split up when Davis wanted more control over his career. Since then, they've been taking shots at each other in interviews and on social media.

Their relationship has hit rock bottom lately. Forbes reported that Mayweather broke an unwritten rule, which didn't sit well with many in the boxing world.

When ES News asked Davis how a fight with Mayweather would go, he had a simple answer:

"Spanking"

It's an interesting matchup to think about. Mayweather is known for his defensive skills, while Davis packs a powerful punch. But they're both smart, calculated fighters who know how to handle themselves in the ring.

Kenny Ellis, who helps train Davis, thinks his fighter has what it takes to beat Mayweather's famous style:

"Gervonta Davis could decode the shoulder roll. If Floyd can fight another exhibition, he can fight another fight. If he's [as] great as he says he is, let's stop spinning the fans – Gervonta vs. Floyd."

Right now, Mayweather is making money doing exhibition fights. He's taken on Logan Paul and John Gotti III, among others. His pro record still stands at a perfect 50-0.

Davis is getting ready to defend his WBA Lightweight World Title. He'll face Lamont Roach Jr. in January. The fight was supposed to happen in December but got pushed back.
