Terence Crawford wants to fight Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. The Nebraska native aims to move up two weight classes to face the Mexican superstar.

Crawford's recent achievements have put him in a position to challenge for bigger fights. He became the undisputed welterweight champion in 2023. In 2024, he moved up to 154 pounds and won the WBA World Title at super-welterweight against Israil Madrimov.

The 37-year-old from Omaha now holds the WBA World Title at super-welterweight. But he's not stopping there. Crawford's got his sights set on Canelo, who fights at 168 pounds.

Canelo, the unified champion at super-middleweight, has a record of 66 fights with only 2 losses. He's undefeated at super-middleweight and has even fought at light-heavyweight twice. Recently, he was stripped of one belt for not facing a mandatory challenger.

The weight difference between the two fighters is significant. Canelo fights 14 pounds heavier than Crawford's current weight class. Some people in boxing think Crawford can make history. Others believe the weight gap is too big to overcome.

Mexican fighting legend Marco Antonio Barrera doesn't think Crawford has a chance. Barrera, who won world titles in three weight classes, shared his thoughts on the potential matchup:

"Crawford? No. He's small. Three divisions down."

At first, Canelo dismissed the idea of fighting Crawford. Now, he says he'll consider any offer that comes his way. Crawford has backing from Riyadh Season's Turki Alalshikh, who might be able to make a big offer for the fight.

The boxing world will be watching to see if this ambitious matchup becomes a reality.
