WBO President: Kovalev can beat any light heavyweight

WBO president Francisco Varcarcel expressed the opinion that the Russian Sergey Kovalev is able to once again become a world champion. Kovalev lost to the Columbian Eleider Alvarez on Saturday night in the US in the seventh round and lost his WBO light heavyweight title.

"Kovalev fought with a strong opponent, but he was surpassed. Sergei can return and become a champion again. He was not at his best and showed just 75% of what he showed before. But Kovalev can beat any light heavyweight if ready," said Varcarcel.
