Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson might face each other in the ring soon. A sparring partner who's worked with both fighters has shared his thoughts on who'd win.
Cobia Breedy, a former Olympian with a 17-1 pro record, has spent time in the ring with both Davis and Stevenson. He thinks it's a close call, but gives Davis the edge.
So I know both of them and both of them are southpaw so that would be a very technical fight and a very like, hard fight to judge. I know Tank more than I know Shakur, I met Shakur, probably sparred Shakur once or twice and that was probably two or three years ago but I seen Tank more and know Tank a little closer, sparred Tank a few more times … I feel like that fight is a 50-50 fight but I got Tank.
Davis, known as 'Tank', holds the WBA world lightweight title. He recently fought to a controversial split decision draw against Lamont Roach Jr., where he took a knee in the ninth round.
Stevenson, the 28-year-old from Newark, is the WBC world lightweight champion. He recently defended his title with a unanimous decision win over William Zepeda in New York City.
Both fighters are unbeaten, making their potential matchup even more interesting. Turki Alalshikh from Riyadh Season has shown interest in making the fight happen.
There are some hurdles to overcome before we see this fight. Davis was recently arrested, and there's talk of him having a rematch with Roach. Hall of Fame fighter Tim Bradley even thinks Davis might be done with boxing altogether.
The boxing world will have to wait and see if these two lightweight stars will eventually meet in the ring. For now, fans can only imagine how this technical, southpaw vs southpaw battle would play out.
