Martirosyan did not enter the ring for almost two years and never performed in the middleweight division. In his last fight in May 2016 Martirosyan lost on points to Erislandy Lara. For the fight against Martirosyan Golovkin can be stripped of IBF title, because of the refusal to meet mandatory challenger Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
