Anthony Joshua wants to fight on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's potential bout with Conor McGregor. Talks of a clash between unbeaten boxing great Mayweather and UFC legend McGregor have been ongoing for some time and a deal now appears to be getting closer.
McGregor claims to have signed a contract for the fight while Mayweather said over the weekend: "The only fight that makes sense to me is the McGregor fight." British heavyweight king Joshua is also keen to see the fight happen and the current hottest draw in boxing has asked if he can join the bill.
"Get me on the undercard," said Joshua when he met Mayweather at the weekend in a meeting which was captured on video. "That's legendary, that fight will go down in history. It will be part of history."
For his part, Mayweather thinks he could make Joshua an even more accomplished fighter. Joshua is fresh from his 11th-round stoppage of Wladimir Klitschko in an enthralling fight at Wembley Stadium last month. But Mayweather says a little 'tweak' would make Joshua even better.
"I've got the utmost respect but you know we've got to bring him over to the Mayweather boxing club," said the American. “We're going to tighten that defence up real, real sharp. Real, real slick. We're not trying to move the trainers out the way, but there's certain things we've got to tweak. His last fight it went what, eight or nine? Eleven? Well, you know, it could have went three."
A grinning Joshua added: "I like that."
