Top Rank boss Bob Arum has claimed any pro boxer who faced Conor McGregor in the squared circle would be able to knock the two-weight UFC champion out. Arum was responding to questions regarding star fighter Manny Pacquiao’s recent admission that the Filipino Senator would love to share a ring with McGregor.
“Conor McGregor is a good athlete and he is the best at MMA,” Arum told. “But MMA and boxing are two different sports. So it’s a lot of talk, everybody is having a lot of fun about it and sure Manny Pacquiao wants to fight Conor McGregor in boxing. Any boxer would like to fight Conor McGregor because they would knock him out.”
Negotiations have already begun between McGregor and Pacquiao’s rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the top Pay-Per-View stars in their respective codes prepare to seal a massive clash in the coming year. Arum’s belief that ‘any boxer’ would be able to end a fight with McGregor early bodes well for Mayweather, who hasn’t enjoyed an unquestioned stoppage win since Ricky Hatton almost ten years ago.
Defeating Victor Ortiz in four rounds in 2011 was highly debated due to the fact then WBC title holder was attempting to apologize to Mayweather when dumped unceremoniously on the canvas. McGregor being younger and fresher, whilst Mayweather hitting the 40 mark next month leads some to give ‘The Notorious’ a chance in the fight, although the bookmakers don’t agree and have the ‘Money’ man a heavy favorite.
