Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez are getting ready for a big boxing match. The two champions will face off on September 13 in the United States, likely in Las Vegas.
Crawford, known as "Bud," comes from Omaha, Nebraska. He's already the undisputed champion in two weight classes - light-welterweight and welterweight. Last August, he moved up to light-middleweight (154 pounds) and beat Israil Madrimov to win the WBA title.
Canelo Alvarez, the Mexican star, has been ruling the super-middleweight division for seven years. He recently added the IBF super-middleweight title to his collection by defeating William Scull on May 2. Canelo has beaten some big names like Gennadiy Golovkin, Jaime Munguia, and Jermell Charlo.
This fight is a big deal because Crawford is moving up in weight to challenge Canelo. If Crawford wins, he'll make history as the first boxer to be undisputed champion in three different weight classes.
Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight champ, thinks Crawford has a shot. He told iFL TV:
"There's been men that have beat people, they're beating people bigger than them, two divisions bigger than them, it's not impossible."
Tyson pointed to Henry Armstrong as an example. Armstrong was a featherweight who beat bigger guys, including welterweight and middleweight champs.
"I think size means nothing [but] determination means everything."
The fight is set for Saturday, September 13, though the exact venue hasn't been confirmed yet. It's Canelo's first defense of his undisputed super-middleweight title, while Crawford aims to make boxing history.
Boxing fans are eager to see how Crawford handles the jump in weight and if he can overcome Canelo's power and experience at the higher weight class. It's shaping up to be one of the biggest fights in recent boxing history.
